Colette in blue
This artwork is from the 2nd batch of "Early Works from Wallpapers". I traced a section from a Wallpaper and mirrored the image to make a pair. These works were intended to push me in the area of colour after years of concentrating on the figurative drawn line.. Painted on handmade paper, actual image size 48cm x 49cm
Acrylic on paper
55cm x 76cm
My reason for painting and drawing is because art is able to touch me deeply, I would like my work to do the same to others. I draw the human figure because most of my work ends up as questions about the future and present of our race. I believe in the essential goodness of mankind however the spillage of greed and fear so clearly threaten our planet. My drawings are influenced by the fluid brush strokes of oriental art or else the solid forms of Henry Moore. My colour works, especially the abstracted images from my "wall paper" drawings seek to push the possibilities of colour.
